9804b1-350Fong Gwong You was born to Fong Chung Hung (father) and Leung Shee (mother) in 1866 at 2 Mott Street, New York, NY. He left for China on February 18, 1879 on the steamship Gaelic. He returned on the steamship The City of Peking and arrived in San Francisco on August 14, 1890. The Collector of the Port of San Francisco refused permission for his landing. Yung Ching, a friend, petitioned for a Writ of Habeas Corpus on August 21, 1890. A bond of $1,500 was posted. Ward McAllister, Special Referee and Examiner, recommended Discharge on January 22, 1891.
