FULIYUProfessor Fu-Li Yu was born in Beijing, China. Although his father, Ling-Ko Yu, and
mother, Ying Chang , were originally from the city of Shenyang, Liaoning Province ,
China. His father, a military officer, was killed in the battlefield when professor Yu was
three years old. In 1949, he together with his mother, his elderly brother, Jih-Shin and his
older sister, Jih-Ming, moved to Pingdong, Taiwan. He received his Ph.D. in
Biochemistry in 1965 from the University of California, San Francisco Medical School,
San Francisco, CA. From 1966-1973, he was a postdoctoral fellow and then senior
research scientist of Cancer Research Institute, Columbia University. New York, NY.
from 1973-1979, he served as Assistant Professor of Biochemistry of Jefferson Medical
College in Philadelphia, PA. Then from 1980-2005, he became Professor of Biochemistry
(tenured) at University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, Rockford, IL. Later
from 1990-2005, professor Yu became Head, Department of Biomedical Sciences,
