Sylvia-KingSylvia King immigrated to the United States with her husband and four children in 1963. Born in Shanghai to a large family, Sylvia left China in the 1950s with her husband and children. The family moved to Hong Kong, Indonesia, and back to Hong Kong, before finally receiving visas to immigrate to the United States under President John F. Kennedy’s parolee program for Chinese refugees. Stopping en route in Hawaii to visit family and friends, they ended their journey in Milwaukee where Sylvia’s husband worked for General Electric. While she and her family made a life in Wisconsin, her extended family spread across the globe, settling in Honolulu, Vancouver, London, Sydney, and Shanghai.>> Back to Many Faces
