Alice Jeung Shih was born and raised in San Francisco, CA. Her father’s family was from Pacific Grove, CA, one of the 19 original pioneer families who settled the very first fishing village in the Monterey Bay area. She met and married Frank Shih, an immigrant from China when he came over in 1945, one of the first to arrive after the lifting of the Chinese Exclusion Act. The family moved to the Washington DC area for Frank’s job, where they raised a family. Later Alice earned her master’s degree in elementary education and taught for many years in schools in Bowie, MD. The couple moved back to the San Francisco Bay Area upon retirement.
